A Child's World curriculum and adult learning resources at Your Natural Learner by Leah McDermott

I love the A Child's World curriculum primarily because it is so developmentally appropriate for the child. We used Pre-K and K when "PolkaDot" and the majority of her peers were right at 4 and 5 and it was dead-on what they needed. It is NATURE BASED which you know I require, seasonal- which is perfect for folks like me who follow the child and environment, rather than a calendar. PreK/K took us two years of "part time" schooling, and we did not get through the entire book list for sure. We're launching into First Grade and I'm thrilled to see active, concrete activities to solidify the knowledge she's gaining. Another perspective: Banana is 4, and will attend public kindergarten next Fall- she's also the youngest sibling of 3, and I truly believe 1st will prepare her more similarly to a traditional PreK for kindergarten. Don't get me wrong--I LOVED PreK/K, but 1st Grade is more aligned with what PreK/K standards are in our local school system (I will not start a rant here.....).

Your Natural Learner is a landing place for Leah's adult education. She has several programs that span from a few hours, to months (Grow Your Natural Learner). I disagree with the "blanket idea" that children will spontaneously read if correctly exposed to language-rich environments, but we've discussed it at length ;) and she IS the expert, I just won't yield my opinions nor experiences either!! LOL!   I still highly recommend her courses, including the literacy course, but we use Logic of English for our writing and reading curriculum.  HERE is a free sample of some of Leah's course content.
