Plantain Poultice

Springtime is the best time to gather the vibrant and tender leaves of the plantain plant. So off we went to the farm to discover the variety of uses for this abundant herb! Since plantain can aid in wound healing and help with discomfort, we used the packaging of a wound dressing as the canvas for our plantain art. After learning the shape of the plantain leaf, the pattern of the veins and the how to spot the flowering bud, it was time to collect some plantain of our own.

We learned how to wash and prepare the herb for a topical skin remedy as well as how to use plantain as a quick spit poultice for immediate use. And our Herbal Mom and Me Class would not be complete without a craft to go along with the season. This time we made beautiful fairy doors using clay, tools and embellishments. Needless to say they turned out so very sweet and unique.
